Pretty refreshing in an age when public figures - esp in politics and media - care more about perception than reality. Born just three days apart, basketball legends Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan were once the best of friends, but now they havent spoken in years. Obv we can't know anyone for certain, but Chuck seems like a guy who chooses to be generous to people around him without giving a shit about what people think (and will even say 'I'm not a role model' to those who misunderstand him). Not to mention the many other stories of Barkley doing good deeds which have been shared by others (I've read a bunch just here on r/nba). He could have gotten easy social media points and helped his personal PR by talking about it, but likely declined as a gesture of respect to his friend. I'd bet even the Inside the NBA producers approached him to talk about it on the show. I was listening Bill Simmons talk about this story on his podcast, and it occurred to me that Barkley hasn't spoken about it yet, even though he must have gotten tons of interview requests. Barkley, however, eventually developed a friendship with the girl and her family. (The story I'm referring to, which I'm sure everyone here has read: ) the NBAs All-Interview Team for his last 13 seasons in the league.
